Why are we writing about this? Because we’re going to be focusing intensively on this topic at the start of the year!
Let’s start with the basics – what is a facelift?
What exactly is a facelift in the plastic-surgery sense of the word? It’s a complex facial operation that involves lifting the facial skin and making a fairly large incision so that beneath the skin the necessary procedures can be performed—repositioning fat pads, tightening muscles and connective tissue, and removing excess skin. In the end, everything is stitched up and you get a tightened face, and they say the results are long-lasting. Of all the procedures, it’s somehow the most acceptable to me, but still… it’s not in the cards!
What is face lifting in the context of face yoga?
What do we do to lift our faces?
First, we release the tension we create in our face, which causes it to pull downward.
We uncover facial expressions and other habits that accelerate the aging process and cause the skin on the face to sag, or lead to unwanted changes such as lines and wrinkles.
We actively and consciously activate the facial muscles to improve their tone. So far, in our Face Yoga by Ivana exercise library, we have around 200 different variations of exercises for the entire face and neck. We also pay special attention to the position and strengthening of the tongue.
We actively engage in lymphatic drainage because, as we now know and many experts increasingly emphasize, lymph is of crucial importance. Any stagnation leads to the accumulation of toxins and unwanted substances and prevents the delivery of fresh nutrients – consequently, it accelerates the aging process.
We massage the face in various ways and with supportive techniques. What does “supportive technique” mean? It’s one that follows the face’s natural directions and is specifically aimed at relaxation, drainage, and lifting.
We use tools that have different functionalities and qualities: gua sha, rollers, tapes, cups.
We don’t forget that our body is an extremely intelligent machine that follows the given instructions. We cooperate and place great trust in it!
We don’t rely on genetics as the source of all problems!
We embrace the aging process as a process of change, but we positively and consciously influence it and do not submit to society’s preconceived, universally accepted (or not) beliefs about aging, preferred appearance, and the purpose of self-care.
We enjoy every moment of our practice and connect with ourselves!
